#oprah 10 reasons why Oprah is on twitter
As most of America can see twitter is becoming a trendy icon. Long gone are the days at SXSW (south by southwest) when twitter was only used by a few thousand first adopters. I don’t think in his wildest dreams that Jack Dorsey the creator of twitter could have imagined that Ashton Kutcher and CNN would have a battle to one million followers.
If that was not enough ……. Jack Dorsey and twitter now have Oprah as a twitter user.
The question is WHY is Oprah now on twitter. Well here are 10 reason ….. not scientific at all and in no particular order.
- Oprah is a brand and being on twitter protects your brand.
- Oprah sees that there is money to be made by promoting and growing her brand.
- Twitter has become an undeniable source of communication.
- Oprah understands that with a possible huge deal in the wings between twitter and google that this is a train to jump on.
- It is better to be followed than to follow. Oprah has over 345,000 followers and she is only following 10 people.
- With the mention of a book Oprah’s voice can make that book a best sellers in a matter of days. Imagine what she can do with millions of followers on twitter.
- She understands the power of “free” branding and publicity.
- Recent numbers show that baby boomers are the fastest growing users of social and new media online, baby boomers spend money, baby boomers love Oprah and OPRAH loves money.
- Oprah is an innovator for the most part, with that said she is late to the twitter game, but as a major celebrity she is on par. Let’s see how Oprah use twitter as a marketing tool.
- Oprah is Oprah, she will not make twitter better, nor will she hurt twitter. Thanks for the twitter love Oprah! Wait maybe the asking price just went up twitter, in the past week twitter has gained more NEW users in a one week period than ever before. Between Ashton, Cnn and Oprah twitter has got some major pub.
When I started writing this article Oprah had 344,974 followers and and a few hours later the number of followers is now 348,031.

I’m not sure I agree that the direction twitter is going, will not hurt the integrity of what we once knew twitter to be. With that said I think it’s great that such a tool is getting much deserved recognition…I do wish that the millions of users who used it effectively and properly would be given credit though.
